奥拉维尔·埃利亚松（Olafur Eliasson）1967年生于丹麦哥本哈根，现在德国柏林居住。

1993年，奥拉维尔·埃利亚松创作了装置作品“美丽”。当水通过一个穿满了小孔的水龙头软管时，水向四面八方喷射，在灯光的照射下，观众从一个特定角度可以看到一条美丽的彩虹。在这件早期的装置作品中，埃利亚松的艺术追求和特点已经显露出来。他要用艺术来表现自然现象，并通过技术手法进行再创造，强化它的表现效果。埃利亚松不仅关注自然现象与机器制造的效果之间的差异，更关心他们二者与观众的关系。例如，他用频闪观测仪的灯光照在喷泉上，几秒钟之后，水像失去了引力的作用冻结在空中。然而，埃利亚松并不让自己局限在光学现象中，在1997年创作的“神奇的世界（The Curious Garden）”中，他让一个大而空旷的房子沐浴在黄色灯光中，由于光的波长不同，其他颜色的灯光都不能进入我们的视线。在一个狭窄的门道里，他用树枝搭起一个小棚架，上面盖上蓝色油布。向前走是一间有个树篱的小房间。冷空气从开着的窗户流入，天花板上还装有通风装置。埃利亚松就是如此一次又一次地利用灯光、冷、热、水和风，引起观众理性与感性反应的不断变换。

"Eliasson's work is a typical reflection of a general philosophy that places value on extending and delving into a person's faculty of perception - and that pursues this probing independently of all modern-day technological imperatives. It's a question of the actual meaning of the concepts of vision and creativity. The point of this work is that these elements are only part of an all-encompassing technical construction. In other words, his works cannot be understood from the perspective of differentiating between a biosphere on the one hand and a mechanical sphere on the other. Rather, every duality of nature and culture is neutralized within a unified field in which apparatus and organism cannot be separated from each other."

This hugely popular exhibit by Olafur Eliasson at the Tate Modern explored that most British of obsessions - the weather.

What looks like a complete Sun is actually only half a circle, reflected by a mirror running the entire length of the high ceiling.

With monochromatic light eliminating all colour and spurts of 'mist' adding to the atmosphere, the building was transformed into an ethereal and disconcerting beauty.
